Born in Blyth, Northumberland, Steven began his career at Walker Technology College in Newcastle upon Tyne and quickly progressed to leadership roles. He held senior positions across the UK before becoming Principal of Doha British School Al-Wakra, where the school achieved an ‘Outstanding’ rating in the BSO inspection and the highest grade in Qatari National Accreditation. Steven holds a BA (Hons) in German and Linguistics, a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages and the NPQH. He is also a Council of International Schools (CIS) Team Evaluator. Steven believes that positive, harmonious communities are key to educational success and is committed to fostering high standards of conduct and a strong school culture.
Originally from South Africa, Simon Mitchell brings global experience to his role, having taught and led in the UAE, Mongolia, Thailand and Spain. He is committed to creating inclusive learning environments where every student feels valued and supported. Simon holds an Honours Degree and PGCE from Rhodes University and recently completed the NPQSL. He is currently pursuing a Master’s through Liverpool John Moores University. Known for his collaborative approach, Simon values open communication, teamwork and mutual respect. He leads with empathy, integrity and a strong focus on student-centred learning.
Katherine is a dedicated educator with over a decade of experience in teaching and leadership across England, China and Malaysia. She holds a degree in English Literature and Psychology from Swansea University, a PGCE from the University of Nottingham and a Master’s in Education. Her passion lies in holistic education and creating inclusive, student-centred environments that spark curiosity and creativity. Katherine has led across all primary year groups and held key leadership roles, including in Shanghai, where she supported school development and accreditation. She believes in nurturing every child’s potential through meaningful learning experiences.
Mr Thompson is a passionate and resilient educator who aims to inspire a love for learning in every child. Originally from Ripponden, West Yorkshire, he holds a BA in Education Studies from the University of Derby and a PGCE in Primary Education. After teaching across Derbyshire, he spent four years at a British school in Qatar, gaining valuable international experience. George Thompson is particularly enthusiastic about teaching history and geography to help children understand the world around them. He brings creativity, energy and a learner-first approach to the classroom. A keen runner, he once completed an ultra marathon across Qatar and also enjoys cricket and football. He is excited to be part of the SIS Rawang community.
Mr Vin is the current Year 6V class teacher and a TESOL graduate with over 12 years of teaching experience in Malaysia. He enjoys using hands-on activities, group projects and technology to create engaging and meaningful lessons. With a particular passion for teaching languages, he has taught a wide range of age groups and believes in building a classroom environment where students feel confident, valued and excited to learn. Outside the classroom, Mr Vin is an animal lover who supports local shelters and enjoys football, music, reading, photography, travelling and gardening.
Mr Nasrullah has five years of teaching experience in both government and international schools. He holds a BA (Hons) in Education (TESOL) from the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. He enjoys challenging students to be curious, take risks and engage actively in their learning. His teaching philosophy centres on the belief that every child is unique and learns at their own pace. Outside the classroom, he enjoys spending time in nature, trying new recipes and watching films. He is passionate about creating a positive and supportive learning environment where all learners feel encouraged to grow.
Steve is an experienced international educator who has taught in Romania, Thailand, Kazakhstan and most recently at a prestigious school in Taipei. He previously served as Head of Prep at Epsom College in Malaysia and Deputy Head in Bangkok. Passionate about student welfare, he now leads pastoral and wellbeing efforts in the Primary School at SIS Rawang. Steve aims to instil a love of learning in all his students. He has returned to Malaysia with his young family, including his son who joins him at SIS. He looks forward to exploring the country again, though he is still not a fan of durian.
Ms Pearline has over 12 years of experience in international education. She holds a Bachelor of Education (Hons) from the University of Roehampton and a PGCE from the University of Nottingham. Before joining Straits International School Rawang, she taught at a British school in Cairo. At SIS, she has led the International Primary Curriculum for five years and is guiding its accreditation process. In 2024, she was a top five finalist in the Teacher Awards by the International Curriculum Association. She now also serves as a Bespoke PD trainer with the ICA, while continuing to teach Year 4 and support academic outcomes across the Primary School.
Miss Haifaa has six years of teaching experience, starting in Early Years before moving into Primary education. She holds a BA (Hons) in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from Management and Science University. Passionate about supporting young learners, she brings energy and care into the classroom to create a positive learning environment. Outside of school, she enjoys reading romance and mystery novels, exploring new cafés with friends and trying out new recipes in the kitchen.
With over 12 years of experience in education, Ms Daphne brings enthusiasm and dedication to her role as Year 2 teacher at Straits International School Rawang. A mother of three, she began her teaching journey in a Montessori pre-school, working with children aged 4 to 6. She later completed her PGCE at the University of Nottingham, UK, which enabled her to teach across Key Stage 1 and 2, including supporting children with additional needs. Daphne believes that learning is a continuous journey and encourages her students to aim high, dream big and reach for the stars.
Ms Calyn Wong is an IPGCE-qualified teacher from the University of East London, trained in the UK curriculum at an ISQM Gold accredited international school. She has experience working with students across Key Stage 2 and in classrooms with learners from over 50 nationalities. After a successful corporate career with international companies, Calyn followed her passion for education and retrained as a primary teacher. She brings energy, dedication and global perspective to her teaching. Outside the classroom, Calyn enjoys travelling, hiking and gardening, and encourages her students to explore the world with curiosity and confidence.
Miss Dani has four years of teaching experience and previously taught at an international school in Qatar. She completed her BA (Hons), master’s degree and PGCE in the UK, and is currently pursuing a second master’s in education with the University of San Diego. She is committed to creating a supportive and engaging classroom where students feel encouraged to grow and succeed. Outside of school, Miss Dani enjoys reading, working out and spending time with her family and friends.
Miss Rajaletchumi holds a Bachelor of Education specialising in language and literature from the University of Tunku Abdul Razak, KL. She has also completed certificates in preschool education and a foundation in management. With over 10 years of teaching experience, she finds joy in helping young learners grow in confidence and independence. She has strong experience in teaching English and Maths and enjoys using creative, engaging methods to make lessons fun and meaningful. Outside the classroom, she enjoys playing badminton, reading education blogs and listening to music.
Miss Jasmine is a qualified educator with a Bachelor (Hons) in Education and over five years of experience teaching in both national and international schools. Teaching has always been her dream, and she is passionate about supporting young learners to reach their full potential. At Straits International School Rawang, she continues to grow beyond her own goals while inspiring her students to do the same. Outside the classroom, Miss Jasmine enjoys singing, dancing and trying new cooking recipes. She believes in the power of education and lives by the words, “Teaching is the only profession that teaches all other professions.”
Miss Ruba holds a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from SEGi University, Kota Damansara. Her teaching journey began in an orphanage, where she taught English, Art and Dance, nurturing a deep passion for working with young learners. She believes that the education offered at Straits International School Rawang is one of the most powerful gifts we can give children to help them change the world. Miss Ruba finds joy in the daily wonder and curiosity of her students and values the positive, nurturing environment the school provides.
Miss Puvee is an experienced Reception Class Teacher with five years of teaching in Early Years education. She holds a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and has successfully completed the KAP (Basic Child Care) course. Passionate about working with young children, she brings creativity and warmth to the classroom. Outside of school, Miss Puvee enjoys singing and painting murals, using her artistic interests to inspire joyful learning experiences.
Miss Stephanie is from Essex, UK, and holds a BA (Hons) in Tourism Management from the University of Kent, QTS from TES Institute and a PGCE in Secondary Education from the University of Cumbria. She has been teaching English First Language and Literature since 2015 and also has experience teaching Travel and Tourism. After starting her career in England, she spent two years teaching in Johor before moving to KL and joining Straits. In her free time, she enjoys reading, doing yoga, travelling and spending time with her fiancé and their dog.
Kalpana Kokulanathan is a Secondary Mathematics and Additional Mathematics teacher who has been with Straits International School Rawang since August 2019. She leads the Maths, Science and ICT faculty and also coordinates the International Learning Opportunities for Students (ILOS). With nearly 14 years of teaching experience, she is passionate about helping students build confidence in Maths, particularly those who find it challenging. Kalpana is committed to supporting mastery of the basics and motivating learners through a positive approach. Outside school, she enjoys playing badminton, travelling with her husband and daughters and spending time with friends.
Gayathri is an inspiring and self-motivated educator with 15 years of experience teaching IGCSE Mathematics, Additional Mathematics and A-Level Mathematics. She holds a Master’s in Educational Management and previously served as Head of Maths for seven years at Tenby International School Setia Eco Park. A lifelong learner, she focuses on pedagogy that promotes understanding and critical thinking. Her teaching philosophy is to unlock the beauty of a calculation and help students develop a true appreciation for Maths. Gayathri enjoys motivating learners to strive for excellence. Outside the classroom, she loves nature, travelling, reading and watching thriller films.
Ms Susila holds a First-Class Honours degree in Business Administration from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak and a Master’s in Teaching and Learning from Taylor’s University, specialising in Social Studies. With 14 years of teaching experience, she has taught IGCSE and A-Level Business, Economics, Accounting and Enterprise in Malaysia and Vietnam. At SIS Rawang, she teaches IGCSE Business Studies, IGCSE Economics and KS3 Enterprise, while also mentoring students and advising the Student Council. An advocate for inquiry-based, student-centred learning, she aims to empower learners to think critically, collaborate effectively and grow beyond academic success.
Ms. Evelyn graduated with B. Ed. (TESL) from University Putra Malaysia. She then spent her best years completing her Master of Arts in Education (TEFL) at the University of Birmingham, England.
She began her career as an English lecturer at a local university. She then moved on to be a curriculum developer and trainer for a preschool education group. Her passion for teaching once again led her to be an English and Music teacher in a private school. She constantly keeps herself inspired as she loves to inspire children and teenagers in achieving their dreams in life.

Yoghes, with a BSc Hons in Computer Engineering and an MSc in Engineering Mathematics, boasts over 6 years of experience as an ICT teacher for key stages 3 and 4. Beginning as a homeschool teacher, she earned accreditation as a Google Certified Educator. During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Yoghes utilized her expertise in Google tools to seamlessly transition to online education, taking on the role of Remote Teaching Coordinator in an international school.
Miss Sutha is an English Language teacher with a Master’s degree in Education from Asia E University. She has over 15 years of teaching experience and began her career as a principal in a kindergarten.
Miss Sutha joined Straits International School Rawang in September 2021. Currently, she teaches EAL to Key Stage 3 students and provides support for EAL students in other subjects across their syllabus.

Asther is an experienced English teacher for secondary and early years students. Her passion for teaching English as a global language is evident in her dedication to providing quality education for younger children, helping them shine. She holds a BA (Hons) in Teaching English as A Second Language (TESL) from Management and Science University.
Currently, Asther serves as an English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher at Straits. This role allows her to work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, aiming to create a welcoming environment that fosters confidence and a belief in limitless learning possibilities. Witnessing her students gain knowledge and confidence brings her genuine happiness.
Outside of work, Asther maintains a healthy lifestyle through regular workouts, finding them invigorating and beneficial for discipline and focus.
She also enjoys experimenting with new breakfast recipes, reflecting her appreciation for balanced nutrition. Her free time is often spent reading and journaling to reflect on experiences, set goals, and enhance self-awareness.
Ms. Aimi graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia with a double degree — a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and a Bachelor of Architecture. In university, she took Bahasa Melayu Komunikasi and Bahasa Melayu Lanjutan as her first language minor study and Arabic as a second language.
Ms. Aimi has over 8 years of teaching experience as a Bahasa Melayu & Arts and Design Technology teacher. She teaches Bahasa Melayu, Sejarah and Islamic Studies at Straits International School Rawang to students from Nursery to Secondary level. Her professional interests focus on creative writing and her current project includes writing a children’s book in Bahasa Melayu.
In her spare time, she loves to spend quality time with her family and explore new hobbies. She believes that positive behaviour and moral values are essential elements for a brighter future.
Ms. Sarah holds a Bachelor’s degree in English, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education, and a Master’s in Education. She is also certified with a Bronze Medallion Lifesaving Certificate and a First Aid Certificate. Displaying a lifelong passion for swimming, Ms. Sarah competed in the 2017 Seagames Water Polo team.
With a professional tenure of four years at Fairview International School, including three years as a Physical Education teacher and one year as the Head of Subject, Ms. Sarah is committed to instilling a lasting love for sports and physical activity among students. She emphasizes creating a secure and supportive classroom environment for everyone.
Mr. Hazdrin was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur. Growing up as a person who is really passionate in sports, especially football, Mr. Hazdrin earned his Bachelor’s Degree Sports Management from Technology MARA University (UiTM).
Within his three years teaching at an international school, he has taught boys and girls ages 4 to 16 various sports skills and coached various sports.
He most enjoys the experiences of being a coach and a teacher. In his classes, he hopes to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth, over a must-win attitude.
He believes in the value of arming kids with practical skills that develop character.

Ms Sufiah, who is originally from Kuala Lumpur, graduated from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) with a Bachelor of Sports Management (Hons) and Diploma in Sports Studies. She has been qualified as Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety by AUSTSWIM for the past six years and holds the certificate of Basic CPR & AED Training (Basic Life Support).
Ms Sufiah spent seven years teaching various year groups in the international schools around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor before joining SIS in 2020. She has taken part in competitive field hockey, badminton, futsal and floorball teams and has experience coaching in a variety of sports such as benchball, football, tee-ball, athletics and swimming. Apart from competitive sports, Ms Sufiah loves outdoor activities, travelling and photography.
Ms Sufiah has a great passion for teaching and enjoys encouraging students to develop their skills and to help achieve their full potential in sports.
Her motto; “Attitude is Everything.”
Holding onto the belief that “Curiosity is the key to learning further,” Ms. Shareen has dedicated 13 years to teaching Secondary Science subjects at the IGCSE level. She passionately instills this criterion in her students, motivating them to explore and apply Science in real-life situations. An enthusiastic educator, she holds a Master’s in Education, specializing in Chemistry and Biology. Witnessing her students pursue their dream careers in the Science field, becoming doctors and engineers, has been immensely rewarding for Ms. Shareen.
Miss Prianangkai is a passionate teacher with an enthusiastic outlook on life. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology and chose to teach as it brings her immense joy. She has been teaching Science for the last 6 years and she works towards making Science a verb instead of a noun. She gets a great sense of achievement when she sees her students effectively apply their scientific knowledge in hands-on projects.
Dawson Thong is an accomplished educator with 14 years of experience teaching Mandarin across various levels. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Studies and a CIDTT from the University of Tunku Abdul Rahman, providing him with a strong foundation in language and culture.
Specializing in the IGCSE framework, Dawson has expertly guided primary and secondary students in learning Mandarin as a Foreign, Second, and First Language. His role as a seasoned IGCSE Mandarin speaking examiner underscores his attention to detail and commitment to high standards.
Dawson’s passion and dedication have earned him widespread respect in the educational community.
Miss Cheam has been teaching Mandarin to students for the past 22 years. She graduated with a Master’s Degree in Arts of Chinese Studies at Nanjing University China. Miss Cheam has also gained over 5 years of experience in teaching IGCSE Mandarin.
A caring and passionate teacher, Miss Cheam ensures that her students enjoy her lessons and focuses on building as much confidence as possible in her students to help them feel comfortable speaking Mandarin.
Liew Yan Yi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Studies from Xiamen University Malaysia and obtained her master’s degree in Chinese language from the University of Malaya. From a young age, she has harbored a deep interest in Chinese culture, encompassing music, literature, and martial arts. Yan Yi is passionate about imparting her knowledge to students, aiming to facilitate their understanding of the vast and profound Chinese cultural heritage. Beyond her academic pursuits, she enjoys writing and occasionally shares poems, prose, stories, and other works online.
Alongside her literary interests, Yan Yi delves into philosophy and metaphysics during her leisure time, pondering the “meaning of human life.”
Miss Kanaga completed her Bachelor in Nutrition from Management & Science University. Her experience teaching students at tuition centres sparked her love for teaching, which drove her to pursue her teaching career full-time. Aside from Drama, she enjoys teaching Science and English.
She enjoys making her own handmade accessories and dancing and listening to music. She also loves reading books and playing with my dog.

Mr Azzmeer, known to his students as Mr A, has 8 years of teaching experience from primary up to IGCSE level. With 5 years as Head of Pastoral and Child Protection Officer, he has built strong relationships with students and parents and values the importance of working together for a shared goal. An accomplished musician, Mr Azzmeer has performed at the Kuala Lumpur international jazz festival twice and has coached bands for six school musical productions. He inspires students to explore various musical genres and excel on stage. Additionally, Mr Azzmeer’s passion for photography allows him to see the world from unique perspectives, adding another dimension to his creative teaching approach.
Ms. Shakila has over 17 years of teaching experience in Malaysia. She began her career as an English teacher in a preschool. She then became involved in developing the curriculum taught and used by other teachers in the school. In 2013, she started her journey as a teacher in an International school teaching Maths and Art. She was the Head of Maths for Key Stage 1. Ms. Shakila is delighted to bring her many years of teaching experience to Straits where she works with Year 5 as a teaching assistant. She enjoys working with our younger students, encouraging them to develop their interests and reach their full potential.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Guidance and Counselling and over seven years of dedicated teaching experience, Valarmathi Paramaselvam is passionate about nurturing young minds. Her focus is on primary education, where she strives to create a supportive and engaging learning environment for her students.
Teaching is not just a profession for her; it’s a calling. She finds joy in watching her students grow and succeed, and she is committed to making learning a fun and meaningful experience for them.
Outside the classroom, she enjoys reading books and playing badminton.

Ashvini brings 9 years of experience in the teaching field, driven by a deep passion for educating young children. Holding a diploma in Early Childhood Education with honors, Ashvini is currently in the final year of completing a degree in the same discipline. With a teaching approach that emphasizes creating a nurturing and engaging environment, Ashvini fosters a space where children can thrive. Additionally, incorporating arts and sports into lessons is a key part of Ashvini’s philosophy, as creativity and physical activity are viewed as essential for holistic development. Ashvini is committed to continuing to make a positive impact in the lives of students.
Vikneswary Sanasirao, has recently accomplished her degree in Early Childhood Education. With valuable teaching experience in government schools, she is passionate about education. Vikneswary is recognized for her dedication, positivity, and eagerness to learn and grow continually.
With a Bachelor of Science in Forensics (Hons) from the National University of Malaysia and a year of experience in Human Resources, Ms Qirah made a deliberate transition into education to pursue her passion for nurturing young minds. Her diverse background enhances her approach to early childhood education, allowing her to blend scientific insight with a deep love for learning. This combination helps her create a stimulating and supportive environment for our young learners. Outside of work, she immerses herself in captivating novels and take great pleasure in food hunting, discovering and savoring new culinary delights.
Afiifah is an energetic, fun, and motivated individual. She completed a diploma in TESL, where she had the wonderful opportunity to work with children in a school setting for six months—an experience she found both enjoyable and memorable. Afterward, she pursued a degree in Linguistics and a Master’s in Professional Communication. However, she soon realized that her true passion lies in teaching and nurturing young minds. Joining Straits International excites her as she loves being around children and is inspired by their curiosity and imagination. Her dream is to contribute to their growth and create a safe, harmonious environment where they can thrive.
Azura has over 13 years of experience working in the education industry. She consistently delivers exemplary work, demonstrating unwavering punctuality and dedication. Her experience in the field of Education encompasses both Marketing and Admissions roles, having successfully contributed to various International Schools and tertiary education institutions. Azura possesses a knowledge and a genuine passion for marketing, complemented by a background in digital marketing communications, social media management, and content marketing.
As the Assistant Manager of Admissions at Straits International School, Edmond brings over 3 years of experience in educational administration and student recruitment. In this role, he oversees the entire admissions process, from initial inquiries to final enrollment, ensuring a seamless and positive experience for prospective students and their families. With a strong background in customer service and a keen eye for detail, Edmond is dedicated to maintaining high standards of communication and efficiency. Ms Shazwanie joined the Straits International School Rawang family in June 2021 and brings her experience in managing student affairs and alumni. She currently specialises in Admissions and offers prospective parents advice and support throughout the admissions process. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang.

She loves to work and interact with parents and students, and fosters a comfortable environment and relationship that allows both existing and prospective parents and students to communicate efficiently. She is known for her smiley face, bubbly attitude, and easygoing nature.

Naziratul was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur and has a calm disposition. She has eight years of working experience in handling expatriate and international students.
